Insurance company sues truck driver over I-70 accident

An insurance company has sued a truck driver and his company for nearly $17,000 because of an Interstate 70 accident in Wayne County that killed a 22-year-old woman last May.

State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance filed the lawsuit against driver Harvinder Singh Bhagtana of Fresno, Calif., and Ekam Transport Inc. of Ceres, Calif. The suit, which was filed by Indianapolis attorney Kevin L. Moyer for State Farm, has been assigned to Circuit Court.

Bhagtana was driving a 2015 Volvo for Ekam Transport eastbound on I-70 last May 22 when he approached congested traffic caused by construction, according to the Indiana State Police investigation. Just west of the Centerville Road exit, Bhagtana's truck struck the blue 2016 Acura MDX driven by Nicholas Berry of Naperville, Ill., sending it into the median, where it came to rest upright.
