Truckers jamboree pulls more than 44,000

WALCOTT -- The World’s Largest Truckstop last week celebrated America’s truckers with 44,523 drivers and their families, as well as local residents during the 38th Annual Walcott Truckers Jamboree.

Visitors came from 25 different states and two Canadian provinces to display their trucks July 13 through 15.

"My family is proud to have been serving the trucking industry for 53 years," said Delia Moon Meier. “The Walcott Truckers Jamboree is our chance to thank all of the men and women who deliver the good we need every day, and we are honored to do so.”

The three-day event included more than 143 exhibits, a Super Truck Beauty Contest with 72 contestants, an antique truck display with more than 170 vehicles, an Iowa pork chop cookout, the Trucker Olympics, carnival games, two nights of fireworks, a truck light show and free concerts.

Mary Sarah performed Thursday night, courtesy of CAT Scale. Country music's Collin Raye and Tony Justice hit the stage Friday night in a show presented by Mobil Delvac. Local favorite North of 40 hit took the stage Saturday before the Super Truck Beauty Contest awards ceremony and Antique Truck Plaque presentation.

Iowa 80 Trucking Museum also celebrated the 100th birthday of its 1917 Velie with birthday cake and balloons at the museum.

Next year’s Walcott Truckers Jamboree is planned for July 12 through 14, 2018.
