120 Penske Logistics workers to be laid off after loss of contract

More than 100 Penske Logistics workers in Michigan will be laid off due to the loss of a major contract.

On Monday, Penske Logistics told workers at a facility in Coldwater, Michigan, that they would be laid off when the facility closes at the end of April.

At least 120 warehouse workers and truck drivers will be affected by the layoff, local news outlet WTVBAM reports.

The layoffs come after Penske Logistics learned that they had lost a major contract with Ford Motor Company in a competitive bidding process.

Penske says that there are other positions within the company that are open to laid off workers.

In May 2019, Penske Logistics announced plans to close their Fort Wayne, Indiana, facility and laid off about 80 workers. Penske said that Fort Wayne closure was due to a “recent local trucking contract termination.”

The Penske Logistics news comes the same week that Black Horse Carriers shuttered a Wisconsin terminal and laid off 68 workers. This terminal closure was also caused by the loss of a major contract.
