Dayton-area trucking business sold

A local trucking company has been sold and the new owner plans to expand operations here.

Hebron-based Ours Services closed this week on a deal to purchase MJM Trucking Inc., a long-haul refrigerated trucking business run by Mike Klontz from a home-based office in Xenia. Klontz is planning to retire.

Ours Services Co-Owner Matt Buchanan told me that he and partner Mike Davis bought MJM because it has a good client base and opportunities to expand. They plan to add a few trucks in the Dayton/Springfield area and possibly in Cincinnati and Indiana as well.

Along with a fleet of trucks, MJM has a dispatcher and five drivers who are independent contractors. Buchanan said the goal is to double the combined companies in the next few years.

The sale is good for the Dayton region because it will keep existing jobs in place and possibly add jobs and more investment in the growing logistics industry here.

Gerry Chadwick, owner of West Carrollton-based Sunbelt Business Advisors, brokered the deal, which has been in the works about nine months. David Wolfe from Huntington National Bank assisted with the financing.

Ours Services will keep the MJM name for now, Buchanan said.

Klontz started MJM in 1972 as a dump truck business when he purchased his first truck.
